Travel information

Caen is located about 250 km west of Paris.

It can be reached by car, train or plane; mostly passing through Paris. In addition, connections with England (Portsmouth) are available via ferry.

By plane:

The Paris airports (Charles de Gaulle and Orly) are linked to European and international airports by all main airlines. Further travel to Caen is possible by car or by train.

The small airport at Caen "Caen-Carpiquet" can be reached from Lyon, Toulouse, and Marseille. Tickets can be bought from HOP! website for some European cities through Lyon. FlyBe connects Caen to London-Southend and may propose connections to other European cities. Additionnal connections could be arranged by your own through these airports.

By car:

When renting a car at the airports in Paris, the trip to Caen will take around 3 hours (not considering traffic jam). Most car rental agencies are available in the airport terminals, see this page.

By train:

When travelling by train you will mostly pass through Paris. High-speed train connections to Paris are possible from London, Brussels, Amsterdam, Köln, Frankfurt.

The trip from Paris Saint Lazare station to Caen requires about 2 hours. The train frequency is approximatively 1h30, see SNCF website.

The Paris Saint Lazare train station is connected to both Paris airports (Orly and Charles de Gaulle) by the train RER B. Coming from the airports, you should head for station ‘Gare du Nord’ where you should change to RER E with the direction Saint Lazare. At Orly airport, a train shuttle Orlyval allows you to reach the RER B station. Consider about 1h30 to reach the train station Paris Saint Lazare. Alternatively, bus connections are available from Orly to Denfert Rochereau station in Paris with Orlybus and from Roissy Charles de Gaulle to Opera station with Roissybus. See RATP website.

By bus:

Some buses drive directly from Paris airports (Charles de Gaulle and Orly) to Caen. The trip duration varies between 4 hours and 5 hours depending on the route. Some of them stop in Deauville.

Three companies are available: Ouibus, Flixbus, and ISILines.

By ferry boat:

A ferry boat connection allows to reach Caen from the harbour of Portsmouth in England via Ouistreham (15 km from Caen). For details see Brittany Ferries website.

To ICPEAC in Deauville:

Deauville can be easily reached from Caen by public transport:

  • by bus in ~1h30, price ~5 €, 18 bus a day (every ~1h), departing from the bus station next the railway station. See Bus Verts website for the time table of the bus line 20.
  • by train in ~1h30, price ~16 € (normal full fare), 3 trains a day. See SNCF website.
